A cornerstone of the PGA season’s early “West Coast Swing,” every sports fan should see a major tournament like this at least once. Aptly titled the San Diego Open when it first began 63 years ago, it’s now known as the Farmers Insurance Open (2015). Torrey Pines has been the tournament’s home since 1968, inviting players and fans to one of the most gorgeous golf courses in the world. Past winners of note include 7-time champion, Tiger woods, and Phil Mickelson, who’s hoisted the trophy 3 times himself.
Where to Rest, Eat, & Grab a Drink
Other than the game, the best thing about La Jolla golf tournaments is tipping back cold drinks with friends in the refreshing sea breeze. During the Farmers Insurance Open, Torrey Pines is host to a few places to take a load off, grab a bite, and sip some beer, wine, or cocktails. To start, there’s The Grove off the 18th Fairway. An open outdoor area for socializing, it features upgraded concessions, Pacific Ocean views at Beringer Wine Bar, and frosty brews at Michelob Ultra Build-A-Bar. For cocktails, try the Grey Goose Lounge.
Fun at Fan Village
Next to the 17th Fairway sprawls this space dedicated to fans having fun. For $85 dollars a day, you can take a seat by the 15th green at The Fringe, an open-air sports bar. Otherwise, there’s always the Michelob ULTRA 19th Hole, spanning 30,000 sq-ft., with a Mega LED TV, concessions, and a bar as well.
