La Jolla Cove

Known for its scenic beauty, La Jolla Cove is a small beach with calm waters hidden among its sandstone cliffs. Clear blue waters create the perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving as water visibility can reach over 30 feet exposing eclectic sea animal life. Because the cove is a protected area, activities such as boogie boarding and surfing are prohibited, making the cove an ideal spot for a quiet day at the beach.

La Jolla Shores

If you’re looking for the best beach in La Jolla to spend the day swimming, body-surfing, boogie boarding, picnicking and sunbathing, head to La Jolla Shores. Its gentle waves and expansive sandy beach make it the perfect spot for families with young children or beginner surfers. Scuba diving classes are also offered here and at the adjacent Kellogg Park.

Where can we see seals?

The La Jolla Children’s Pool is a man-made sandy cove originally designed to provide a safe swimming area for children. Today, it is a destination hang-out for seals, sea lions and their young to sun themselves. The short walk atop the sea wall provides the perfect spot to observe the seals and sea lions while taking some unforgettable photos.

Where is the best surfing in La Jolla?

Locals know that Windansea Beach is the best spot for advanced surfers. Its unique setting of underwater reefs creates great waves, but the key is knowing when to go, as certain weather conditions produce the best waves. If you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer, it’s recommended to head to La Jolla Shores where waves can be calmer.
