UC San Diego Tritons AthleticsCollege sports are alive and well in La Jolla, just minutes from the Empress Hotel! Whether you’re a UCSD fan, your team is playing them, or you just have a love of spectator sports, come on out for the action. The Tritons represent 23 varsity teams, so there are plenty of opportunities to put on your blue and gold school colors, and cheer on these talented athletes. King Triton, the school mascot will certainly be there!
Tritons teams include basketball and soccer for men and women, men’s baseball, and women’s softball. There are also tennis, crew, water polo, swimming & diving, cross-country, track & field, fencing, and golf teams. The basketball team plays at the RIMAC Arena, the university’s main athletic complex. Baseball games are played at Triton Ballpark on the eastern side of the campus, and the women’s Softball Field is newly renovated with brand new dugouts. In 2012, the softball team was the NCAA West Region Champions. Go Tritons!
Get Free or Low Priced TicketsThe campus of UC San Diego is an easy 15-minute drive from Empress Hotel. General admission tickets are reasonably priced— for example, basketball games are $10, volleyball matches are $8, and baseball games are $5. Current UCSD students can get into games for free—just show your student ID. Many sporting events don’t charge admission at all, even to the general public, during the regular season including crew, soccer, cross country, swimming & diving, softball, and fencing.
